A little about me…

Well let’s start with the fact that I am a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner since that is most likely why you’re here in the first place.

I studied with the Nutritional Therapy Association for a very intensive nine month certification course.  It consisted of 15 modules of study and hours of hands on training.  It was thorough and I learned more there than any of the many nutrition courses I’ve taken in the past.

As a personal trainer for many years I worked with clients that were complaining of ailments like achy knees, backs and/or shoulders.  I believed I could help my clients rid themselves of these nagging pains simply by coaching them through a standard food change in my limited knowledge of nutrition and then have them “work off” the extra weight.  In my mind if they weighed less, then their knees wouldn’t hurt so much because they wouldn’t have to carry the extra weight.

Well this did not work.  They lost the weight and changed their food habits but they still hurt and they developed some digestive problems or in actuality were finally recognizing them because they had learned to truly listen to their bodies.  It was so frustrating as a trainer to get my clients to a point where they may look good but they felt bad.  I wanted to help them feel and look their best so I set out to find the reasons why they were still having these issues.  In my search I stumbled upon some articles in which the Nutritional Therapy Association was mentioned and I went straight to their site and began to be amazed at the depth they were getting into the very issues for which I was craving knowledge.  It was seriously just a couple of weeks before classes began in my area (Austin, TX) and when I hit the link to sign on the dotted line I was told I would be put on the waitlist because the class was already filled.  Bummer, big bummer.

Well I prayed and left it up to my Lord to make the timing right if that was His will.  I got a phone call later that same day just to be told that I was number fifteen on the waitlist! The sweet lady asked me if I  would consider looking into the other available classes that were in places like Denver, CO and Phoenix, AZ.  Nope. I told her I would just stay on the waitlist for Austin, TX and hope. I think it was 3-5 days later that I got the phone call that I had made it into the Austin class and I wanted to be so excited but in reality I was questioning everything.  You see, my biological mother (that’s another story for another time) was just diagnosed for a second time with triple-negative breast cancer and I was her main caregiver at the time.  It meant juggling a heavy class load with all her doctors appointments.  It meant studying while sitting with her during her 5-7 hour chemo treatments.  It was not going to be easy but like I said, if it was His will then I knew He’d give me what I needed to get through it.  Obviously, I made it and here I sit today, writing my very first blog post.  It was one of the best decisions I could have made.  It has allowed me to survive, literally, one of the most stressful periods of my life (again, another to post to come on this, I promise).  I look forward to how this knowledge will be able to help countless others and maybe even you.  This is my passion and I’m thrilled to finally be able to share it!
